sony surrenders

GeoHot Sony and signed a truce to end their legal battle

Sony and George Hotz, a hacker accused of having published methods for altering the PlayStation 3 have announced that their fierce legal battle is finally over.

Sony and Hotz published a joint announcement (in English) which claim to have reached a legal agreement for fraud and violation of copyright against Hotz.

Neither side has revealed details of their agreement, but we know that GeoHot, Hotz is known as the Internet, is committed to eliminating shared codes and not to carry out this type of action against Sony. If you do, pay a fine of $ 10,000. However, GeoHot still claims that did not make any malicious or illegal act.

"I can not comment on it without violating my agreement with Sony (...). That said, I do not like censorship and I do not like to censor myself. I assure you that I'm fighting for the right team as best I can, "said GeoHot in an email to Wired.

Still do not know if this will affect in any way for Sony against 100 other people related to the case against GeoHot, who also accused of violating their copyrights. It is not known what Sony plans to do with the many Internet sites that are sharing GeoHot codes.

The agreement is the result of months of war between Sony and the defenders of copyright on the one hand and, on the other, GeoHot and defenders of Internet freedom. Sony had a strong team of lawyers that won most of their petitions to the court, including getting the IP addresses of all users who have visited the site that published the code GeoHot to alter the PS3.

But on the other hand, GeoHot responded with a virtual war videos including his opponent. The hacker also had the support of a large number of Internet users, including those of the group Anonymous, who carried out several attacks against Sony virtual. The group even thought about organizing a boycott of Sony to motivate people to stop using their products.

District Judge Susan Illston must still approve the agreement, signed on Saturday but has barely made the cut this week.
